Engineering firm Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) has bagged an order from NTPC for setting up 1,600 MW Singrauli Supercritical Thermal Power Plant (STPP) Stage-III. The plant will be set up adjacent to the existing 2,000 MW thermal power station at Singrauli in Sonebhadra district of Uttar Pradesh.
BHEL has bagged this order to set up 2x800 MW STPP under international competitive bidding (ICB) on engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) basis. Key equipment for the project will be supplied by the CPSU's manufacturing units at Haridwar, Trichy, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ranipet and Bhopal.
Notably, set up by BHEL in 1982, Singrauli TPS was NTPC’s first power plant in Uttar Pradesh. With its vast portfolio of 1,34,000-plus MW of thermal power plants installed in the country (around 57 percent), BHEL leads in thermal utility projects as well as is a leading player for renovation and modernisation (R&M) of old sets for increasing the lifespan and for upgrading efficiency and reliability.
So far, BHEL has contracted 68 supercritical steam generators (SGs) and 63 turbine generators (TGs) in the country, of which, 34 SGs and 25 TGs have been commissioned.
